Q&A with Newport County Community defender Luke Degilbert #14
Luke Degilbert returns for another Q&A to update us on his season with the Newport County Community side.
Typically, living with autism can render it more difficult to communicate, form relationships and make sense of surroundings. However, Luke is an ambitious character and refuses to let his autism get in the way of his football dream of representing Wales.
How have you been since we last spoke? You well?
Really great thanks.
It’s been an amazing week playing on Rodney Parade and getting support from footballers like Mason Mount, Fikayo TomorI and Jayden Bogle plus friends for my football.
Also it was amazing being interviewed by ITV Wales as well which was amazing.
I saw on Facebook, that you got gifts from some players – what did you get?
Well I been getting signed stuff from women footballers which is really nice.
I got a shirt coming from Danny Welbeck which a friend sorted by him and I got signed autographs coming from Derby players to and other players.
it's amazing they all show me support with my football and all to.
I’ve also seen on Facebook you’ve been hitting the gym, how is your training going?
Going really well thanks been doing cardio and working hard and I'm really enjoying my training at the moment.
What is your gym playlist?
LOL Well I listen to all sorts like Kool and the Gang then there's chic and other types.
I listen to all sorts really mate.
How are you enjoying the season so far?
Been absolutely amazing so far I been playing defence and I say I'm like Tomori, Richard Keogh and Mickey Demetriou in defence as I like to work hard and get the ball back and do well for the team :)
Saw you played at Rodney parade? Tell us about your experience?
Absolutely amazing and a proud moment and I really enjoyed the moment the Newport county fans were amazing .
It will be a moment I will never forget.
What position did you play?
I played centre back and I was really proud with how well I did as I like playing centre back to and really enjoy playing that position.
How was your performance?
Well according to my friends and family who watched me, they thought I did really well at centre back and like me in that position but I'm just really happy with how myself and everyone did to be honest.
What are your goals for the rest of the season?
To keep working hard and do well for the team.
Is there any charity matches or tournaments planned in the near future?
I am having a tournament in December so looking forward to that
