Q&A with Newport County Community Defender Luke Degilbert #7

Luke Degilbert returns for another Q&A to update us on his season with the Newport County Community side.

Typically, living with autism can render it more difficult to communicate, form relationships and make sense of surroundings. However, Luke is an ambitious character and refuses to let his autism get in the way of his football dream of representing Wales.

How have you been since we last spoke? You well?

Really chuffed to bits mate passing my college modules and just training hard in gym and getting ready for season now

How are you enjoying the season so far?

This will be my second season under Norman Parselle at Newport County Community.

I really enjoyed the season with county community and I'm looking forward to the new season now, showing what I can do in defence and show my ability.

Everyone is really looking forward to the season and it's nice see everyone growing in confidence and enjoying themselves. I think everyone in the team has done really well and has grown in confidence. A few team mates and I have started doing sessions on Thursday and we are all doing really well and we all can't wait for season now.

I got to say Ethan Alfie, Rob Tom, Jason Crygg, Luke Rhys and others have done really well so have my coaches Norman, Dave and others. I think Colin and Martin done really well and I got to say I done well for myself to.

It's really nice Dan Butler come to watch when he can. I usually keep in touch with Dan and he is a top bloke and a good mate as well.

I saw you on YouTube, showing off your skills – that must of be a fun experience?

It was good mate but my trainer fell off though lol which everyone found funny.

I enjoyed the interview and recording the videos. I was being filmed at Bettws were I train and  it was a really good experience.

I saw on your twitter at your visited Aston Villa’s training – tell us about the experience?

It was the best day ever mate the players were brilliant to me when I met them they all had a chat to me some recognised me which was nice like Alex Prosser, James Bree, Keinan Davis and Albert Adomah came out and had photo with me.

I had a good chat with Sam Johnstone James Bree, James Chester, Neil Taylor, Birkir Bjarnason and Scott Hogan. They are a great bunch of boys. Ritchie De Laet was great to me as well as Andre green and John Terry.

They signed my top and stopped for a photo. Overall they are top people and I would like to once again thank the players and the club for making my day as well and my friend who took me.

I’m planning to go back after Christmas when Jack Grealish is back and I be going to a game as well.

And finally, what are you goals for the season?

To do well, listen what coaches say and to do my best in defence or where ever my coach Norman Parselle puts me whether it's right back, centre back or upfront.

Norman sees the talent in me, how consistent I am and how well I do when played. I will try and bring last season's form into this season and do my best for the team.

Questions about Newport County -

Newport County have a decent start League Two, what are your hopes for the season?

Well they brought in some really good players like Shawn McCoulsky, Frank Nouble, Reece Cole, Joe Quigley, Matt Dolan, Robbie Willmott and Lamar Reynolds. We kept Mark O'Brien, Micky Demetriou and David Pipe so I think County could have a good chance of going up because I think Newport have a quality squad and I think under Michael Flynn this season.

Ben White from Brighton looks like a quality signing to won't surprise me if he plays in Premier League one day.

Do you feel about the new signings – who are you excited about seeing this season?

Well Frank Nouble is a quality signing and Ben White is a great prospect and looks a top talent. I also like Shawn McCoulsky, Lamar Reynolds, Robbie Willmott and Matty Dolan to.

I think Mark O’Brien, Demetriou have been solid too and I'm looking forward to seeing them all play to be honest mate and I believe Newport will go up this season.

Questions about Aston Villa –

Slow start to the season with 2 losses in 4 games - what are your hopes for the season?

Again with the signings at club like Glenn Whelan, Elmohamady, Sam Johnstone, John Terry, Bikir Bjarnason with more signings on way.

With players like Kodjia to come back and likes of young prospects in side like Davis, Hepburn, Murphy, James Bree, Andre Green and players like Jack Grealish, Conor Hourihane, James Chester, Albert Adomah, Scott Hogan I believe villa still go up because I think the quality is there.

I think the players at club are really good so despite slow start I think villa will have a successful season in my opinion.

John Terry has joined the club, do you think his vast experience can stabilise the club?

Well he is a top defender with plenty experience from playing with Chelsea and England. I think he is a top signing because of his experience and I think he will do well this season.

Do you feel about the other new signings at Villa – who are you excited about seeing this season?

The signings are really good I'm looking forward to seeing Whelan, Bjarnason, John Terry and the whole team this season and I'm excited about seeing how the young players play to.
