The 72 Show - Episode 2.23 (with Andy Couzens)

Anthony Kendrick and Nick Davie return for the latest episode of The 72 Show, in which we are joined by former Leeds, Carlisle and Blackpool midfielder Andy Couzens.

We start the show by asking how Andy's current projects are getting on, and with a debate about young players in football. Are young players getting too much money too early? We also discuss life after football, and at what point footballers should be thinking about their future.

We move on to the Championship, beginning our review with Leeds who currently sit in 5th place. Play-offs seem secured, but who will they be joined by? Sheffield Wednesday sit sixth but we discuss the possibility of Fulham or Derby County sneaking into sixth place. The battle at the top is reviewed, with Brighton and Newcastle having a gap over third-placed Huddersfield.

We also debate the sides at the bottom of the Championship. Wigan won against already-relegated Rotherham with a 97th minute winner, but does that give them a fighting chance? Blackburn have struggled after showing promise under Tony Mowbray with three losses in a row. Could Birmingham go down, despite their board putting their support behind Gianfranco Zola.

We also discuss Sheffield United and Doncaster, who sit top of Leagues One and Two respectively and have now confirmed their promotions this season. The automatic promotion battles in both leagues seem relatively predictable with Bolton, Plymouth and Portsmouth having a gap to those teams in behind. But in both leagues, the play-off races appear impossible to call. In League Two specifically, eight teams are separated by just four points. We pay particular note to Andy's former clubs, Blackpool and Carlisle.

We finish the show by discussing the sacking of Grimsby manager Marcus Bignot. With the club having little to play for this season, it appears a strange time to sack the manager.
