The 72 Show - Episode 2.5
The 72 Show this week is with Anthony Kendrick and Nick Davie. With no football in the Championship due to the International Break, all of the on-pitch talk comes from Leagues One and Two. This includes Sonny Bradley's remarkable game where he scored three goals and Northampton coming from behind to draw 1-1 with League One table toppers Scunthorpe.
Off the pitch, we discuss a number of managerial changes. Would Chris Powell be a serious option to replace Nigel Pearson as the Derby County boss? At Aston Villa, Steve Bruce has had conversations but it is not yet a done deal. Neil Warnock has made a return to management, taking over at Cardiff City. But what happened to Russell Slade and Paul Trollope? Shrewsbury have also lost their manager Micky Mellon, who has taken over National League side Tranmere. Could have turned it around with Shresbury in 23rd in League One?
We also review the Player and Manager of the Month awards in each division. Alex Neil (Norwich), David Flitcroft (Bury) and Derek Adams (Plymouth) won the Managerial awards, and Scott Hogan (Brentford), Josh Morris (Scunthorpe) and Jon Stead (Notts County) won the player awards.
Our debate this week is about the new EFL Futures scheme. This is the idea that £750,000 will be allowed each season over the next three years for teams which develop homegrown talent. But is it the responsibility of Football League clubs to be developing the players due the failings of the Premier League? And would this make any difference in managers giving young players chances.
