The Hipsters Guide to Europe #2 (with Sonja Massio)
Anthony Kendrick hosts the second episode of the European Football show, focussing on Serie A. We are joined by Sonja Missio, from Unusual Efforts, a fellow FBA Nominee. Unusual Efforts are a publication company for women - trans or cis - and people who identify as non-binary to publish pieces on global soccer topics.
Sonja is described on the website as 'condemned as an Udinese supporter since birth'. We discuss Sonja's memories of supporting Udinese. This includes when they were in the Champions League five years ago, compared to the current hopes of a top ten finish. They have lost a number of players including the legendary Antonio Di Natale.
We move on to discuss the Serie A season. Juventus are at the top of the table and could make it a hat trick of Serie A and Coppa Italia victories this season. We discuss whether the competition in Napoli and Roma can win the title.
We then look to discuss the Milan clubs. Both clubs are a shadow of their former selves but have been linked with Chinese takeovers and Inter, in particular may have a huge transfer budget. Can they become European giants once more?
We then move on to discuss Atlanta, who are sixth in the table and may end up with European football next season. The relegation battle has FC Crotone joined by Pescara and a Palermo side which has had four managers this season.
We also discuss whether Juventus and Napoli can progress in the Champions League. Both sides finished top of their groups - but while Juventus have a winnable game against Porto, Napoli have been drawn against Real Madrid. There is also the possibility of Italy gaining a fourth Champions League spot at the expense of the Premier League. Could this help to put Italian Football at the level it once was?
