The Hipsters Guide to Europe #4 (with Dan Dan La Liga Man from FANTv)
Anthony Kendrick is joined by La Liga expert Dan Tracey (@dantracey1983) for the fourth episode of The Hipsters Guide to Europe.
We begin the show with a few of the big stories across Europe, including Roger Schmidt being sacked as Leverkusen boss and the ongoing title race in France.
We then move on to the focus of the show with Barcelona at the top of La Liga. Enrique is leaving at the end of the season, but what will his legacy be? And where do Barcelona go from here. We discuss various possibilities, including La Liga coaches Valverde and Jorge Sampaoli, along with Pocchettino, Koeman, Wenger and potential left-field choice Laurent Blanc.
We then look at the title race, where the Enrique news may give Barcelona a renewed determination for the title, but can Real Madrid bounce back from recent stutters to claim La Liga? We look at whether Cristiano Ronaldo is reaching the beginning of the end, and if Gareth Bale can push on to be in with the very top players. Sevilla currently sit third just five points off top spot, but do they have a serious chance at the title? In any case, third place is a massive overachievement for the club.
We then look at the other sides in La Liga, with Athletico Madrid, Real Sociedad and Villareal in a battle for the final Champions League spot, and also cover Valencia who have had a bit of a resurgence and Deportivo who have recently appointed Pepe Mel as their new manager.
The show concludes with a discussion on the Champions League. The big story from the first leg was PSG beating Barcelona by four goals, but is there any chance of a comeback? We also mention the English sides Leicester and Manchester City who perhaps have the most open second legs against Sevilla and Monaco.
