In the wake of the Munich Air Disaster, Real Madrid President Santiago Bernabeu offered to help Manchester United rebuild the club by offering Argentine legend Alfredo Di Stéfano on loan which was agreed by United Manager Matt Busby and Di Stefano.
However, the move was blocked by the FA as it was considered a place that could instead be used by promote a British player.
Bernabeu also offered the team holidays to Spain and allowed the use of their facilities for the bereaved, set up cut price annual friendlies to help raise funds.
Real Madrid would go on to win the European Cup that year. Bernabeu then dedicated the trophy to United, and even offered the trophy to the club, which they declined.
